Moss Matcha — Kyoto Inspired Café Interior Design in Singapore

Project Overview
A Kyoto teahouse experience in Marina Bay
Moss Matcha is a Japanese-inspired tea café located in Marina Bay, Singapore. Designed by Skai Atelier, the project explores how traditional Kyoto teahouse aesthetics can be translated into a modern café renovation in Singapore.
As F&B interior designers, our goal was to work together with the client's vision to create a calm and immersive environment that reflects the ritual and craftsmanship associated with matcha culture — a tranquil escape within the busy Marina Bay district, balancing aesthetics with operational efficiency.
Design Concept
A quiet, contemplative atmosphere
Natural textures, muted colour palettes, and minimalist detailing create a sensory experience that aligns with the ceremonial nature of matcha preparation. As F&B interior design and renovation experts in Singapore, the design prioritised:
- — Calm and immersive interior atmosphere
- — Clear customer flow within the café
- — A visually prominent matcha preparation counter
- — Intimate seating areas for guests
Strategy
F&B interior design strategy
Designing a successful café requires balancing brand storytelling with operational practicality. Our commercial F&B renovation strategy focused on intuitive customer circulation, a focal preparation counter for matcha service, efficient workspace for staff operations, and warm lighting that enhances the tea ceremony experience.
Outcome
Café renovation outcome
The completed Moss Matcha café demonstrates how thoughtful café interior design can transform a small space into a memorable destination — combining material selection, spatial planning, and refined detailing to reflect the brand's Japanese identity while supporting efficient daily operations.
