Kyoto Onimaru – Japanese Onigiri Design in Singapore

Project Overview
Overview
Kyoto Onimaru is a Japanese onigiri concept located in Singapore, designed by Skai Atelier as part of a commercial F&B renovation project. Inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, the store brings a sense of Kyoto's refined culture into a contemporary urban setting.
As F&B interior designers in Singapore, our goal was to create a café environment that reflects the brand's Japanese heritage while ensuring efficient operations for daily food and beverage service. The design balances minimalism, material warmth, and spatial clarity to create a welcoming environment for guests.
Design Concept
The design concept draws inspiration from traditional Japanese architecture and dessert culture. Natural materials, soft lighting, and carefully curated textures create an atmosphere that feels calm and authentic, while the interior palette focuses on warm wood tones and understated finishes that evoke the quiet elegance associated with Japanese cafés.
- — A welcoming storefront presence
- — A clear ordering and service counter experience
- — Comfortable seating zones for customers
- — Subtle lighting that enhances the dessert presentation
Strategy
F&B interior design strategy
Designing a dessert café requires careful coordination between aesthetics and operational functionality. Our commercial F&B renovation strategy focused on a layout that supports smooth customer flow while allowing the service counter to act as a focal point. Seating was planned to maximise comfort within the available floor area while maintaining clear circulation, and lighting was used to highlight the dessert displays.
Outcome
Renovation outcome
The completed Kyoto Onimaru café demonstrates how thoughtful F&B interior design can transform a commercial unit into a distinctive dessert destination — reflecting the brand's Japanese inspiration while remaining functional for daily operations.
